Internet Download Manager 6.17 Build 3 New Comes With Stability & Reliable

The company behind the development applications, known as IDM or Internet Download Tonec reportedly named recently presented its latest version of the build for the users on the move IDM. The latest version is nothing but the Internet Download Manager 6:17 Build 3.

Although the official release notes have not obtained so far, the presence of this latest version of IDM build more likely intended to improve the stability and reliability of the whole application in a particular case.

Previous versions of Internet Download Manager has received an update to increase download speeds YouTube videos, as well as bug fixes in addressing some of the problems reported by users in the older release.

Internet Download Manager can be operated smoothly in all the editions of Windows out there, including Windows XP to the latest Windows 8 though. And even special versions of the latest build, reportedly can run well on both versions of the Windows operating systems that exist, either 32-bit or 64-bit.

Windows 8.1 Enterprise Preview Reflects the Growing Trend of Working Remotely

Microsoft unleashed Windows 8.1 Enterprise Preview today. The early look at the enterprise version of Windows 8.1 follows the release of Windows 8.1 Preview at Microsoft’s BUILD conference last month, and includes a variety of tools that show Microsoft’s commitment to both BYOD and virtualization.

Aside from the slew of changes and enhancements in the regular Windows 8.1 Preview edition, Windows 8.1 Enterprise Preview also includes features uniquely designed for business customers. Windows 8.1 Enterprise Preview adds business-friendly elements like Direct Acess, and BranchCache. It also provides IT admins with the power to configure and lock down the Start screen on Windows 8 clients.

Microsoft also has tools in Windows 8.1 Enterprise Preview to help out with BYOD and virtualization: Windows To Go, and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). Windows To Go lets the company put an entire managed Windows 8 desktop environment on a bootable USB thumb drive, and VDI gives the business the tools to enable users to use critical business software from virtually any Internet-connected device.

One of the hottest trends in business technology today is mobility and working remotely. The driving forces behind working remotely are the “bring your own device” (BYOD) trend and virtualization.

More and more companies are embracing BYOD and allowing (or requiring) employees to provide their own PCs and mobile devices. BYOD can be a cost-cutting measure for the company, because the employee is taking on some (or all) of the burden of purchasing the PC. BYOD enables users to be more productive and have higher job satisfaction because they get to use the hardware they prefer, and are more comfortable with.

BYOD also introduces some unique concerns, though, when it comes to enforcing policies and protecting company data. Regardless of its benefits, companies can’t just let employees connect rogue computers to the network, or store sensitive company data on a personal PC without any protection. The nice thing about Windows To Go is that it turns any Windows 7 or Windows 8 device into a managed Windows 8 PC without installing any additional software, or putting the personal applications or data of the employee at risk.

Another factor in working remotely is virtualization. Whether hosted locally or in the cloud, virtual servers allow the company to maximize the value from its investment in hardware, and adapt quickly to changing demand or business needs. From an endpoint perspective, virtual applications, or virtual desktop are more valuable. A virtual desktop infrastructure like in Windows 8.1 Enterprise simplifies deployment and management of software because the company only has to install and maintain it in one place. At the same time, it helps the users get more done even on older or weaker hardware because much of the processing overhead is handled on the server end.

Small and medium businesses have a lot to gain from both BYOD and virtualization. The features and capabilities of Windows 8.1 Enterprise Preview demonstrate Microsoft’s commitment to keeping SMB customers on the cutting edge.

3-D Gun Printing: Here’s the Software That Stops It

New software has been developed that aims to restrict the manufacture of firearms that have been created using new 3-D technology.

The world’s first gun made using 3-D printing – called “The Liberator” – was successfully fired on May 6 in Austin, Texas. In just three days the blueprint created by startup Defense Distributed to produce the plastic gun had been downloaded around 100,000 times, according to Forbes Magazine.

Anti-gun campaigners have criticized the project, whilst lawmakers in different U.S. states have moved to pass new legislation to prohibit the manufacture, sale and use of the digitally made firearms. And now Danish startup Create It REAL has produced software that it says blocks users from printing guns in the first place.

“The likely buyers are 3-D printer manufacturers who want to minimize their liability risk and offer a firearm parental control feature to their customers,” Create It REAL’s CEO Jeremie Pierre Gay told CNBC.

“The feature creates a unique digital fingerprint of the firearm…the manufacturer could decide to block the print or to simply give a warning to the user of the potential danger.”

The software has taken a year to develop. The firm realized there was a gap in the market after surveying end users and 3D printer manufacturers. Gay told CNBC that his previous job working with Digital Rights Management (DRM) for technology firm Motorola served him well.

“[We realized] people are interested in the ability to put a lock on their firearms at home, the same should be possible on a 3D printer as a parental control feature. I would say that this feature is customer driven even if they did not know they wanted the feature when we asked,” he said.

“The possibility to make a firearm at home is not new, there are many plans on how to do it on Internet, the problem with 3-D printing is that it could become simply too easy, this feature makes it more complicated again.”

Cody Wilson, the man behind nonprofit Defense Distributed was skeptical that the product would actually be able to prohibit the printing of guns, which are produced as separate parts and then assembled. “The Liberator” is printed with hard plastic and fires a standard .380 caliber bullet. The only non-printed piece is a common hardware store nail which is used as its firing pin.

“Such software must walk a very fine line, of which I’ve no doubt it is incapable…It’s interesting PR to the uninitiated only,” the 25-year-old law student at the University of Texas told CNBC.

“‘The Liberator’ pistol is an assembly of over 17 parts, most of which individually would not set off a detection software unless the exact model was blacklisted. Think about it, springs, hammer, even the grip. These are not ‘guns’.”

‘Wild West’ Regulation

Both New York City and New York State have introduced legislation to curb the making of 3-D printed firearms or ban their use altogether and similar bills have been introduced in California. Linda Rosenthal, a New York State assembly member told CNBC that New York’s bill is currently sitting with the Codes Committee after the legislative session ended on June 21.

“I have all intentions of pursuing this legislation next session,” she told CNBC. “The controversy surrounding the passage of the SAFE ACT (the New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act) will make passing any piece of gun-related legislation that much more difficult, but I think this is a very important issue that must be addressed before the technology becomes widely available.”

New York State should act as a leader to provide a national model for other states to follow, Rosenthal said, and welcomes the new software that she says is effectively the industry regulating its own behavior.

“It is important that industry and government partner with each other to address this issue. Neither acting alone will be able to accomplish enough to deter dangerous behavior….Given that no technology is foolproof, it is critical that the states have strong tools available to discourage wrongdoing and criminalize bad behavior,” she told CNBC.

“3D printing is a very new technology, and in terms of regulation, it is the Wild West out there.”

Despite the issues surrounding the manufacture of firearms, 3-D printing – creating three-dimensional solid objects from digital models – is gathering momentum and is transforming everything from medicine to home goods. Printers that once cost $30,000 now are priced closer to $1,000 and have the potential to rewrite the rules of global manufacturing.

The market for 3-D printing was estimated at about $1.7 billion in 2011 and could hit $6.5 billion by 2019, according to research firm Wohlers Associates.

Watchful Software to Showcase Leading Cybersecurity Technologies at Microsoft’s Worldwide Partner Conference 2013

Watchful Software, a leading provider of data-centric information security solutions, will feature live demonstrations of its award-winning cybersecurity technologies at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC) 2013 this week, July 8-11. The company will showcase how RightsWATCH and TypeWATCH prevent sensitive data from being disclosed inadvertently and unauthorized users from accessing your systems. Watchful Software is also announcing a global collaboration with SECUDE and Foxit Corporation to offer enterprises running on SAP a powerful end-to-end approach to protect business critical information regardless of its form or location.

“Often, data is being pulled out of a SAP system, and is being transformed into emails, documents, spreadsheets, etc. This transformation process creates the opportunity for data breaches,” states Charles Foley, CEO of Watchful Software. “The alliance between Watchful, SECUDE and Foxit product offerings ensures that SAP-based information is protected against leaks, loss or theft, even if it is outside of the SAP database or published into different formats. This combination gives enterprises an unprecedented level of security of their business critical information both inside and outside the SAP landscape, as it moves around the world.”

Those who stop by stand 1825 at WPC 2013 will be able to see how Watchful’s comprehensive product suite is capable of 1) educating users and training them to handle confidential information, 2) leveraging ERM and DLP technology to classify, encrypt and protect sensitive data from being leaked, and 3) leveraging state-of-the-art eBiometrics technology, to constantly ensure that the people using your systems are who you think they are.

“Data breaches aren’t simply a question of good versus evil; oftentimes, these breaches are a result of an error by someone who really had no intention of disclosing sensitive information. Moreover, we should accept that just because there’s a security policy manual does not mean that its readers are going to act accordingly. Experience has proven that they won’t,” states Rui Melo Biscaia, Director of Product Management at Watchful Software. “RightsWATCH delivers a powerful tool for classifying data, controlling access to that data based on its user clearance and classification, and ensuring that the end result is what the organization expects and demands.”

The WPC 2013 is a four-day global gathering of top Microsoft partners held in Houston, Texas, USA (08 – 11 July 2013).

TSP Symposium 2013 Keynotes to Focus on Quality Practices for Critical Software

The Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute (SEI) has announced the slate of software engineering thought-leaders who will serve as keynote speakers for the Team Software Process (TSP) Symposium 2013. Held in Dallas, Texas, on September 16-19, the TSP Symposium 2013 keynote line-up includes Bill Curtis, senior vice president and chief scientist with Cast Software; Enrique Ibarra, senior vice president of technology of the Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV); and Robert Behler, chief operating officer of the SEI.

The symposium theme, When Software Really Matters, explores the idea that when product quality is critical, high-quality practices are the best way to achieve it.

“When a software system absolutely must work correctly, quality must be built in from the start. A disciplined approach to quality also offers the benefit of lower lifecycle costs. The TSP promotes the application of practices that lead to superior, high-quality products,” said James McHale, TSP Symposium 2013 technical chair. “Our keynote speakers and representatives from industry and government organizations from around the world will share how using TSP helps organizations build quality in from the start when there’s no room for error.”

  • Curtis will assert that the stakes for software-caused operational problems are now larger than ever, approaching a half-billion dollars per incident. Every other aspect of the business is managed by numbers, including IT operations. Software lags behind, however, because the culture of craftsmanship still prevails. Curtis’s talk will challenge that culture: Quality measurement will be challenged for under-measuring non-functional, structural quality, the cause of many operational disasters. Productivity measurement will be challenged for not penalizing baselines when rework is shifted into future releases as technical debt. Software measurement will be challenged to better express outcomes in terms that justify investments for improving quality. The word “quality” will be challenged as the wrong way to frame the argument. Curtis will propose a measurement stack or measurement pyramid to help translate software numbers to business numbers. At the foundation of this pyramid are the Personal Software Process (PSP) and TSP.
  • Ibarra will detail the Mexican Stock Exchange’s (BMV) broad plan of technological renovation that included migration to a new state-of-the-art data center and creating new operational systems with better functionalities and quality attributes. Since 2005, the BMV, which is responsible for operating the cash and derivatives market of the country and is the only exchange in Mexico, has faced the constant challenge of accommodating an exponential growth of demand for its transactional services as well as pressure from the market to offer services with better response times and functionalities. One of the most challenging software projects included in this technological renovation plan was the redesign and construction of the operational system known as the trading engine, which has strict and ambitious requirements for speed (latency), scalability, and continuous availability. The new system, which was to be designed and built internally, and the project were called MoNeT. The BMV had two goals for MoNeT: making sure a carefully considered and reviewed system architecture was in place prior to building the system and adopting a software development process that maximizes the quality of the new system and ensures that it complies with its intended quality attributes. Ibarra will describe the most relevant aspects of the MoNeT project, its performance in production, and the business impact it had on the BMV.
  • Behler, one of only 139 individuals qualified as pilots of the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird aircraft, will describe his experience flying the fastest, most physically demanding aircraft in the world to gather vital data during the Cold War and the teamwork approach it took to develop the aircraft. The SR-71 was developed in the 1960s with myriad sophisticated sensors used to acquire highly specific intelligence data. The aircraft remains an icon of American aerospace engineering to this day and is considered to be the most effective reconnaissance aircraft in history.

In addition to the keynote speakers, substantial technical program, and organized networking events, the TSP Symposium 2013 also offers practitioners an in-depth learning opportunity with full-day tutorials on introductory and advanced TSP concepts.

“I am very excited about this year’s lineup of keynote speakers and technical presenters. The symposium should be stimulating with presentations on a broad array of topics related to quality-focused software development. It is also an excellent way for participants to network and exchange diverse ideas about how they have used the PSP/TSP approach to achieve their software quality goals,” said Mark Kasunic, Symposium co-chair.

All-New Adobe Social Now Supports Flickr, Foursquare, Instagram and LinkedIn

Adobe Digital Marketing Forum — Adobe Systems Incorporated (ADBE) today announced the availability of the all-new Adobe® Social, which now features integration with Flickr, Foursquare, Instagram and LinkedIn, in addition to social predictive publishing capabilities, a mobile user interface, streamlined reporting, and new collaborative features. Adobe Social is the first solution specifically designed to leverage the new Adobe Marketing Cloud interface, which enables on-the-go marketing capabilities from any device. Adobe Social, a key element of Adobe Marketing Cloud, enables marketers to scale social marketing across their organizations, listen and respond to customer conversations, and connect the dots between social interactions and business results.

“Today’s social marketers are challenged to validate their social spend,” said Bill Ingram, vice president of product management, Digital Marketing, Adobe. “Adobe Social makes it easy to measure business impact from social campaigns and use that data to optimize strategy in a highly visual format.”

New Social Platforms Supported

On a daily basis, social marketers attempt to listen to the vast amounts of available social data, use that data to publish compelling content and then create better digital experiences for their audience. At the same time, they look to foster two-way conversations with customers and prospects to nurture these relationships. And they need to do all of this across an ever-growing number of social platforms.

With that in mind, Adobe Social is now integrated with Flickr, Foursquare and Instagram, which complement existing integrations with Facebook, Google+, Reddit, Tumblr, Twitter, YouTube and many more to offer the most comprehensive understanding of social conversations, consumer behavior, and real-time trends. The addition of Foursquare is unique as Adobe Social is the first to capitalize on the social network’s exclusive partnership with leading data provider, Gnip, to leverage the full fire hose of Foursquare’s check-in data. Access to local-mobile data will help social marketers understand the movement in customer check-ins, the competitive landscape, and how localized marketing initiatives align with specific venue check-in data.

Adobe Social is also adding the ability to publish content to and analyze metrics associated with LinkedIn Company Pages and Groups, features that will support relationship-building on this critical professional network. The addition of these new platforms increases Adobe’s consumer touch-points, enabling social marketers to scale across the enterprise and build a more complete understanding of the consumer.

“Adobe Social is enabling Mastercard to seamlessly engage with local markets around the world, building trust through online listening, conversation and community,” said Adam Broitman, vice president, Global Digital Marketing, Mastercard. “Now that’s priceless.”
